MAC Cheerleading Tryouts

The McMaster Cheerleading team is a competitive sport club strongly supported by the McMaster Athletics Department. We are responsible for cheering and performing at all home football and basketball games, as well as at Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL Football games. We also compete annually at the University & Open National Cheerleading Championships and represent our university proudly. In addition we can be found in and around the Hamilton community doing various fundraisers and community events.

We are looking for athletic, strong individuals to train with us. Previous cheerleading and gymnastics experience is an asset, but not required. You can always learn!! See below for FAQ’s.

McMaster Cheerleading Tryout FAQ

Q: Do I have to be able to tumble?
A:
No, tumbling is not required - but it is a huge asset. We are lucky to have access to facilities that give you the opportunity to learn, or to improve existing skills.

Q: What if I have no cheerleading background?
A:
Some of our best cheerleaders have never cheered before coming to McMaster. All that's required is the willingness to work hard, train hard, and be ready to learn.

Q: How many people come to tryouts?
A:
Tryouts vary from year to year. Regardless, the amount of people should have nothing to do with you!

Q: How many people are you taking?
A:
We will never turn away a good athlete, regardless of the amount of people we are looking for. So essentially...as many people as we think would be an asset to our program.

Q: How often do you practice?
A:
Typically we have two practices a week, and cheer at least one game. You are also required to attend all community/charity events, as well as all team functions.

Q: What do I do if I'm coming to McMaster next year and want to be on the team?
A:
Contact the coaches ASAP at: maccheercoaches@hotmail.com. Don't wait until the last minute! Even if you are aren't sure if you're coming to Mac yet, it's good to get your foot in the door.

Q: When are tryouts?
A:
The team usually holds two tryouts per year. One in the Spring for summer training, and another in September for the upcoming season.
